Welcome to Nursery at Bredbury St Mark’s Church of England Primary School

We are delighted to welcome you to our Nursery at Bredbury St Mark’s Church of England Primary School.

Our Nursery provides a happy, caring and stimulating environment where the children can begin their educational journey, develop their independence and grow in confidence. We believe that every child is unique, and we work closely with families to ensure that children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

From their very first day, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create, communicate and have fun through a wide range of carefully planned experiences.

Learning through play

Play is at the heart of our Nursery provision. Through purposeful play and adult-led activities, children develop the skills and knowledge they need for the next stage of their education.

Our children have opportunities to:

• Develop their language and communication skills
• Build friendships and learn to play cooperatively
• Develop confidence and independence
• Explore numbers, shapes, patterns and early mathematical ideas
• Enjoy stories, rhymes, songs and books
• Develop their physical skills through indoor and outdoor activities

Our dedicated staff get to know each child as an individual and carefully support their interests, needs and development.

A nurturing start to school life

Starting Nursery is an important step for children and their families. We aim to make this transition as smooth and positive as possible.

We create a welcoming environment where children can develop secure relationships with trusted adults and gradually become confident members of our school community.

Our Christian values underpin everything we do. We encourage children to be kind, respectful, caring and thoughtful towards others, helping them to develop a strong sense of belonging.

Working together with families
We know that parents and carers are their child's first and most important educators. We therefore place great importance on working in partnership with families.

We keep parents and carers informed about their child's learning and development and welcome opportunities to share children's achievements, interests and experiences.

Together, we can give every child the best possible start.

Getting ready for Reception
Our Nursery children are given a gentle and positive introduction to school life, helping them develop the skills, confidence and independence they will need as they move into Reception.

Alongside learning through play, exploration and child-led activities, we introduce short, age-appropriate lessons as part of our daily routine. These sessions help children become familiar with listening to an adult, joining in with a group, following instructions and concentrating for short periods of time.

Children begin to develop important early skills in areas such as phonics, early reading, writing and mathematics, while always keeping learning fun and appropriate for their age and stage of development.

We also focus on the wider skills that help children succeed in Reception, including:

• Becoming more independent
• Putting on coats and managing personal belongings
• Taking turns and sharing
• Listening and responding to others
• Following simple instructions
• Developing confidence when speaking
• Building friendships
• Persevering when something feels tricky
• Looking after themselves, others and their environment

Our aim is that, by the time children move into Reception, they feel confident, capable, excited and ready to learn.
