The teaching of Mathematics at St Mark’s reflects the main aims of the Maths National Curriculum.
Children are encouraged to recall number facts mentally and apply this knowledge to solve calculations. Through questioning, they are supported to make decisions about the most efficient methods to use and are encouraged to articulate how they have completed a calculation. In addition, they are challenged to apply their knowledge of efficient methods to problems that often involve real life contexts. When solving problems, they are encouraged to explain their understanding and reasoning.
